## Description

CraftPost Preferred Sources helps publishers invite readers to add their website
as a preferred source in Google Search.

The plugin provides:

 * A responsive light or dark call-to-action card.
 * Automatic placement before or after content, after the first paragraph, H1, or
H2, or before a detected theme footer.
 * The `[craftpost_preferred_sources]` shortcode for blocks, page builders, and
   templates.
 * A configurable source domain, heading, description, and button label.
 * Locally stored aggregate click statistics with an option to disable collection.
 * Click statistics displayed directly on the plugin settings page.

Automatic placements are disabled by default. Local aggregate click statistics are
enabled by default for new installations and can be disabled in settings. The plugin
does not load remote scripts, styles, fonts, or images.

CraftPost Preferred Sources is an independent plugin and is not affiliated with,
endorsed by, or sponsored by Google.

#### External service

The call-to-action links to Google’s Preferred Sources page at `https://www.google.
com/preferences/source`.

No request is made to Google merely by displaying the call to action. Google receives
the configured source domain in the destination URL and the visitor’s normal web
request data only after the visitor clicks the button and leaves the website.

Google provides and controls the Preferred Sources feature, including website eligibility
and availability. Review [Google’s Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy)
and [Google’s Terms of Service](https://policies.google.com/terms).

#### Privacy

Local click statistics are enabled by default for new installations. While collection
is enabled, the plugin stores aggregate click totals by date, device category, and
source page in the local WordPress database. It does not store IP addresses, cookies,
or visitor identifiers, and it does not send statistics to CraftPost or any other
analytics service.

WordPress administrators can add the plugin’s suggested disclosure from the Privacy
Policy Guide. Deleting the plugin removes its settings and locally stored statistics.

## FAQ

### Does the plugin contact Google when a page loads?

No. The frontend uses local CSS, JavaScript, and inline SVG. A visitor contacts
Google only after clicking the preferred-source link.

### Does it guarantee that my website is eligible?

No. Google controls eligibility and availability. The plugin only creates a call
to action and the destination link.

### Does it track visitors?

Click statistics are enabled by default for new installations and can be disabled.
Only aggregate local counts are stored. No IP address, cookie, or visitor identifier
is stored.

### Which shortcode attributes are supported?

Use `theme="light"` or `theme="dark"` to override the saved theme. With Polylang,
edit the heading, description, and button text for each configured language in the
plugin settings. The current page language selects the texts automatically.

### Can I translate the interface?

Yes. The plugin is ready for community translations through translate.wordpress.
org. User-entered multilingual content is edited in the plugin settings when Polylang
is active.

### Can I use it with Elementor?

Yes. Add `[craftpost_preferred_sources]` to an Elementor Shortcode widget.
