No, not at all. However, it took our company around 8 years to build the _Pro_ version and we are willing to spend a lot more years of work on this software. We encourage you to evaluate the free version first, and then upgrade to Pro to unlock its potential. ### Why some functions are not available in the free version? We are a software development company that constantly works to deliver professional tools to build up websites. We make money by selling licenses of the Pro version. ### Is it worth upgrading to Pro? VikRentItems is not a one-page plugin. You can build websites worth a lot of money with this plugin. You don’t need anything else to deliver a complete website, if not a Theme and some experience with WordPress. ### Can I use VikRentItems with my preferred Theme? Yes, of course. You are free to install Vik Rent Items on your website with your own Theme. The plugin will adjust to it thanks to its own CSS framework. It is also possible to work on a custom CSS file to adjust some layouts. ### What’s the main difference with Vik Rent Car? Many functions of Vik Rent Items and Vik Rent Car are pretty similar. However, the biggest difference is that with Vik Rent Items you can allow your clients to rent multiple items (for the same dates) with the same order, as well as items with multiple units. Vik Rent Car instead was mainly designed for vehicles, where, for example, only one car per order could be rented. If you need to allow a family to book multiple bycycle with one single order, maybe 2 “Mountain Bikes” and 3 “Bikes for Kids”, then Vik Rent Items will work perfectly. VikRentCar does not allow the user to book multiple vehicles at once. This was essential for me because I’m building a site for a company that does motorbike rentals for group tours.VikRentItems does allow for multiple rentals (like a cart), however, it’s too buggy and I don’t have confidence in it’s stability if I was to deliver it to the client.What I Liked: Flexible Pricing Features: The plugin allows for detailed pricing setups, including variable pricing for different rental durations. This feature is incredibly useful for a rental business like mine, where customers renting for longer periods get a lower daily rate. Customizability: VikRentItems offers extensive configuration options, making it adaptable to different types of rental businesses. Feature-Rich: The plugin supports many advanced features such as pickup and drop-off locations, which are critical for a rental service operating across multiple locations. Good Foundation: The plugin provides a solid framework for a rental system, with built-in tools for automated calculations and order processing. Support: I found the support got back to me in good time. They acknowledged the bugs, and suggested solutions and alternatives. What I Didn’t Like: Critical Error with WebP Images: When uploading WebP images for products, the plugin causes a critical error, making it impossible to use this image format. This is frustrating, as WebP is a modern, efficient image format that I use throughout my website. Oddly, the VikRentCar plugin supports WebP images without issue, so I hope this can be addressed in a future update. Pagination Issue in Fares Table: The “Fare for Days” table has pagination issues, it only shows a maximum of 30 days on each page. Clicking the arrows to view the next set of days doesn’t work, and the link points to “javascript: void(0);”. For a rental service like mine, which needs pricing for 90 days across multiple items, this is a major limitation. The pagination worked perfectly in VikRentCar, so it’s disappointing to see it not functioning here. Media Directory Integration: The plugin doesn’t allow users to select product images from the WordPress Media Library, requiring uploads directly from a local machine. This results in duplicate images and unnecessary storage usage. Additionally, there is no option to delete images once they are assigned to a product, creating complications for updates or corrections. Conflicts with VikRentCar: Running VikRentItems alongside VikRentCar caused label conflicts where “Cars” was displayed instead of “Items.” Disabling VikRentCar resolved this issue, but it’s inconvenient if both plugins are needed on the same website. Lack of Migration Tools: There’s no built-in way to transfer data from VikRentCar to VikRentItems. This was disappointing since I had already spent significant time setting up my motorbike inventory in VikRentCar and now need to redo everything manually. Steep Learning Curve: Some options in the dashboard are vague, and it’s unclear what they do without extensive trial and error. Adding tooltips or brief descriptions for each option would make the plugin more user-friendly. No Error Logs for Critical Issues: When critical errors occur (e.g., the WebP image issue), nothing appears in the WordPress debug logs. This makes troubleshooting harder and prolongs resolution times. Final Thoughts: VikRentItems has a lot of potential, but it feels like it’s not quite polished yet. While it offers many features ideal for a rental business, the bugs and usability issues make it frustrating to use in its current state. If these issues are addressed in future updates, it could easily become a five-star plugin. Unfortunately after dozens of hours configuring/re-coding an extremely buggy system, poor support that was not helpful (I created my own solutions), I’m left with a site that Google isn’t indexing.
