Description
NextXen Designer gives your WooCommerce store a fully interactive product customization canvas powered by Fabric.js. Customers add text, upload photos, place shapes, and browse clipart directly on a product mockup — then add their personalized design straight to the cart.
The designer runs in the customer’s browser, and design records are stored on your WordPress site. The WordPress.org edition includes the core designer and PNG artwork export. Optional Pro features require the separate Pro plugin and an eligible Freemius license or trial. See External Services below for Freemius and Google Fonts usage.

External Services
Freemius
The plugin bundles the Freemius SDK for account connection, licensing, upgrades, updates, and optional diagnostics. The Free edition offers an opt-in connection. Connecting an account or activating a Pro license sends the site, account, and license information needed for these services to Freemius, including the site URL, account email, and software versions. Review the SDK’s connection prompt for the information requested and available choices.

Google Fonts
When Google Fonts are configured, the designer requests font stylesheets from fonts.googleapis.com and font files from fonts.gstatic.com. These browser requests disclose the visitor’s IP address and request information to Google. To avoid these requests, leave the Google Fonts list empty and use local fonts instead.

FAQ
-
Are Cart and Checkout Blocks supported?
-
Yes, on WooCommerce 9.6 or later. On older WooCommerce versions use the classic cart and checkout shortcodes. Product Input Fields use the standard product data editor and classic single-product add-to-cart form; their values also display in Cart/Checkout Blocks.
-
What does PDF export include?
-
Pro renders saved artwork at 300 DPI, with one page per surface. Choose A4, A3, Letter or Legal and 0–20 mm bleed in Settings. Mockups are excluded. Bleed extends the canvas background outside the trim box; it does not invent missing edge artwork. Uploaded image quality still depends on the original resolution. Export runs in your browser and reports image/font loading failures.
-
Where are Product Input Fields configured?
-
With the Pro ZIP installed and an eligible Freemius license or trial, edit a product and open Product Data Product Designer Product Input Fields. Add text, multiline text, dropdown or checkbox fields, optionally mark them required, and save. Fields also work when the visual designer is disabled.
-
How can I recover designs missing from older orders?
-
Open NX Designer Order Designs and use Recover missing order designs. Recovery uses existing order-item design links and available saved artwork; it cannot recreate artwork that was never saved or has already been deleted. Existing order snapshots are preserved.
-
Does this work with any WooCommerce product type?
-
The designer works with Simple and Variable products. It adds a “Customize Product” button on the single product page.
-
Will my customers need to install anything?
-
No. The entire designer runs in the browser using JavaScript. No plugins, apps, accounts, or browser extensions are needed on the customer’s side.
-
Can I offer the canvas on multiple sides of a product (front, back, sleeve)?
-
Yes — this is a Pro feature. You can define up to 12 named surfaces, each with its own mockup image and canvas dimensions.
-
Where are the designs stored?
-
Designs are stored in your WordPress database (
wp_nxde_designs). A permanent, immutable snapshot is saved towp_nxde_order_designsthe moment an order is placed — so order records are never affected if a design is later edited or deleted. -
Can customers save their design and come back to it later?
-
In the free version, designs are associated with the current browser session. In Pro, logged-in customers can save named designs to their My Account My Designs page and resume or re-order them any time.
-
How is the design attached to the WooCommerce order?
-
At checkout, the plugin snapshots the full Fabric.js canvas JSON and a JPEG thumbnail into the
wp_nxde_order_designstable, linked to the WooCommerce order and line item IDs. This snapshot is completely independent of the original design record. -
Can I translate the plugin?
-
Yes. Translation resources are included in the
languages/folder. You can create.po/.molocale files with Poedit or Loco Translate. The text domain isnextxen-designer. -
Is the plugin compatible with WooCommerce HPOS?
-
Yes. The plugin explicitly declares compatibility with WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage (custom order tables) and uses WooCommerce order APIs.
-
Do I need to run npm or any build tools?
-
No. Fabric.js is pre-bundled in
assets/vendor/fabric.min.js. Site owners and end users never need to run any build commands. -
What data does the plugin store, and can it be deleted?
-
The plugin stores designs, order snapshots, assets, and asset categories in custom database tables, alongside plugin options and product/order metadata. Table prefixes depend on your installation. Uninstalling version 2.0.2 retains shared settings and artwork. Unreferenced guest drafts older than 30 days are cleaned up automatically; uploaded files are retained. Removing all plugin data requires a separate, deliberate database and uploads cleanup after a backup.
-
How do I get support?
-
- Free version: use the WordPress.org support forum.
- Pro version: submit a ticket at nextxentech.com/support.
